Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure stated the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
